January Nights is structured in a traditionally linear form. The melody during the verses and chorus is carried by the bass while the transition between one verse/chorus pair to another is filled by a quick-take shift to a lone piano melody. The bridge devolves into a state of musical time suspension when the drums temporarily take the lead in the conversation before the last verse melody brings things back together again.
