There We Are is built upon an electronic loop from the Korg DW-8000. Once that loop was established the loop itself suggested the shape of the bass line. Then, after a few hours of overdubbing guitar and vocals the song was finished. The vocal is deliberately minimized (it is just two lines) to make it just one of several equal elements within the song rather than the song’s focus.
